Debra Falkenberg collected 15 kills and 12 digs, leading Stony Brook to a 15-2, 16-14, 14-16, 15-10 season finale victory over Albany Thursday night at the USB Sports Complex. Stony Brook finishes the season with a 13-19 mark while Albany finishes 3-24.
The Seawolves dominated game one, thanks to four kills from Debra Falkenberg.
In game two, Jaime O'Connor gave the Seawolves a 5-2 lead and Rachel Goldsmith's service ace built the advantage to 12-8. But a service ace by Alissa Gibbs and an attack error by Stony Brook gave the Great Danes a 14-12 lead serving for the game. The Seawolves countered with the game's next four points for the victory as Falkenberg and O'Connor had kills.
Andrea Forte's kill staked the Pack to an 11-6 lead in game three and it looked like Stony Brook would cruise to the win. But Albany fought back to tie the game at 13-13 on two kills by Gibbs and three attack errors by Stony Brook. Gibbs and Arbitman put together back-to-back kills on serve to give the Great Danes a 16-14 win.
The Great Danes continued the run into game four, taking a 7-3 lead and had a 9-6 advantage, hoping to force game five. The Seawolves tied the game at 10-10 on two kills by Falkenberg and registered the match's final five points for the victory.
Falkenberg had eight of her 15 kills in the decisive game four. Freshman setter Alison Fields had 46 assists, seven digs and six kills. Senior Katie McCabe had 14 kills while classmate Andrea Forte had a season-high six kills and six digs. Cynthia Orengo had 10 kills and two blocks.
Leading the way for Albany was Gibbs, who had match highs in kills with 17 and digs with 18. Julie Arbitman had 13 kills and Maureen Roberts had 39 assists and 15 digs.
It was the 16th straight win for Stony Brook over Albany.
