Stony Brook junior Debra Falkenberg collected a match-high 12 kills and set the school single match record for hitting percentage as the Seawolves downed LIU, 15-4, 15-8, 15-5 Monday at the USB Sports Complex. It was the second win of the season over LIU (11-21) for Stony Brook.
Falkenberg had 12 kills and just one error in 18 attempts - hitting .611. As a team, the Seawolves hit a season-high .309 (32k-11a-68att). It is the first time this season they have hit above .300.
Rachel Goldsmith got the Pack a 4-1 advantage on Stony Brook's first serve and the team never looked back. The Seawolves capitalized on six attack errors in game two to jump out, 10-0, and went on to the win. In game three, Stony Brook erased a 4-3 LIU lead, closing out the game and match with 12 of the final 13 points as Falkenberg served nine consecutive points.
Alison Fields had 22 assists for the Seawolves.
Leading the way for LIU was Cara Strzelczyk, who had nine kills.
The win snapped a three-match losing streak for the Seawolves and extended LIU's losing streak to six matches.
