O'Connor Paces Pack To Triumph Over Iona

Stony Brook, NY - Junior Jaime O'Connor collected seven service aces and 11 digs in leading the Stony Brook (11-19) to a 15-11, 15-11, 15-10 victory over Iona Wednesday night at the USB Sports Complex. It was the eighth straight win for Stony Brook over Iona as the Seawolves remained undefeated against the Gaels (16-13).

Stony Brook jumped out to a 10-1 lead on a pair of kills from O'Connor and Cynthia Orengo. The Gaels rallied to score 11 of the next 15 points to close within 14-11. Orengo registered one of her eight kills on the night to close out the game.

Game two was nip-and-tuck until the 11th point. With the teams tied at 11, Susanne Westing served out the game, getting another pair of crucial kills from O'Connor to get the game victory.

O'Connor turned a 5-5 game three into a 9-5 advantage with three consecutive service aces and the Seawolves cruised to the win.

Three Stony Brook players registered double figure digs including Rachel Goldsmith and Debra Falkenberg with 11 apiece. Falkenberg also had nine kills. Orengo led all players with 14 kills. Freshman setter Alison Fields had 38 assists.

The Gaels were paced by Kathy Kunath's 12 kills and Lexie McComish's 17 digs. Kunath also contributed with 10 digs and three service aces.

The Seawolves hit .250 as a team and outhit the Gaels, 52-39.

Stony Brook hosts Buffalo Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.
