Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook's Erin Byrnes won both the one- and three-meter diving events and Starlyn Rupinski earned two individual first-place finishes, but it wasn't enough as the Central Connecticut women's team defeated the Seawolves 124-111, while the Stony Brook men's team fell by a score of 109-101 in dual meet action Saturday afternoon at University Pool.
Byrnes was outstanding for the Seawolves as she won both diving events, while fellow Seawolf Kristi Schubert was runner-up. Meanwhile, Rupinski once again shined in the freestyle events. The freshman won the 200 free in 2:02.02 and the 100 free in 56.10. She also swam on the 200 relay team, along with Sarah Doret, Laura Thorson and Lyndsay Sudol, that placed first. Thorson won the only other individual event for the Seawolves, winning the 50 free in 26.28.
The Blue Devils were led by Amanda Kravolic who won both the 100 breast and 500 freestyle, two of six individual first-place finishes for CCSU.
On the men's side, Igor Voloshin and Jason Ferrara each won an event for the Seawolves. Ferrara's time of 56.30 was good for first in the 100 backstroke, while Voloshin was victorious in the 100 breast with a time of 1:00.64. The 200 free relay team of Albert Koyfman, Alex Guzman and Ferrara marked the only other win for the Seawolves. Adam Clements and Dominik Matuzewitz each won two individual events to pace Central, which notched eight on the afternoon.
The Stony Brook women's team falls to 3-5, while the men are now 2-5. Central Connecticut improves to 5-2 on the women's side and 4-3 for the men.
The Seawolves return to action on Saturday, Jan. 20, when they host Binghamton at 1 p.m.
