Stony Brook opened the 2000 volleyball campaign Saturday afternoon by falling to
Hartford, 15-9, 15-9, 15-2. It was the first match under new head coach Deborah Matejka.
The Pack fell behind 8-0 in the first game, but rallied to within 11-7 behind the solid serving of junior Catrina
Gordon. However, the Seawolves could not overcome eight hitting errors in the game and fell. Overall, the
Seawolves hit just .066 in the match and made 16 errors.
Stony Brook took an early 2-0 lead in game 2, but Hartford countered with nine of the match's next 11
points to take a 9-4 lead and eventually won the game. Hartford led from start to finish in game three and
avenged a 3-0 loss in the teams' only other meeting last season.
Katie McCabe returned to the Seawolves line-up after red-shirting last season and was solid. She
collected seven kills and seven digs in the loss. Freshman Rachel Goldsmith had 10 digs and four kills and
Debra Falkenberg had six kills and five digs.
The Seawolves will take on the University of Texas El-Paso in its home opener Monday afternoon at 1:00.
