Men's Soccer Notches Fifth Straight Shutout

Sept. 21, 2000

Box Score

Stony Brook, N.Y. - STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The Stony Brook men's soccer team (5-0, 1-0 ASC) continued its impressive unbeaten streak on Wednesday, shutting out Lafayette (0-6) 2-0 at University Field on the Stony Brook campus. The win marks the fifth shutout in five games so far this season for the Seawolves.

Neither team could find the back of the net for much of the game, as each team struggled to get into an offensive flow. Stony Brook outshot the Leopards 12-2 in the first stanza but Lafayette goalkeeper Craig Schroeder registered seven saves to thwart USB's chances.

The game remained scoreless until the 63rd minute, when the Seawolves' Shane Arikian netted his second goal of the season off assists from Kenyatta Montgomery and Hector Dillon. The Leopards made a surge toward the end of the game but were unable to connect, remaining winless on the year.

The Seawolves outshot Lafayette 22-8, and USB goalkeeper Dan Ferrin made two saves on the afternoon.

With its fifth win, Stony Brook surpasses last season's win total of four victories. It also equals its best start in 19 years, when the 1981 team opened the season 5-0-1 before suffering a loss.

Stony Brook will put its undefeated and shutout streak on the line when the Seawolves travel to face Towson on Saturday, Sept. 23.
