Wildcats Take Down Seawolves In Volleyball, 3-1

Stony Brook, NY - The Stony Brook volleyball team (10-14|3-4 America East) came out like gangbusters Sunday afternoon at the SBU Sports Complex but fizzled in falling to New Hampshire (12-7|5-2 America East), 25-30, 30-26, 30-26, 30-25.

It marked New Hampshire's fifth win in six matches and Stony Brook's third straight loss.

The Seawolves built their largest lead of game one at 26-21 on one of freshman Valerie Maloy's eight kills in the game. Stony Brook out hit the Wildcats, .229-.139 to produce the 30-25 victory. Maloy finishd with 22 kills in the match, hitting .386 for the Seawolves.

New Hampshire avoided going down 2-0 as Alyson Coler and Jen Williams each had seven kills in game two and Erin Ludwig had six digs to pace the 30-26 victory. The Wildcats took the lead for good in the game on Coler's kill to make it 23-22 as she collected two more to spark an 8-4 run.

Coler finished with 19 kills and 11 digs.

Lauren Knight hit .444 in game three with six kills - part of a .319 hitting performance in game three's 30-26 victory. Kerin Mackanin had 17 assists, a portion of her 55 assists and eight-digs in the match. Tied at 25-25, the Wildcats got four of their final five points off Seawolves' miscues to take a 2-1 advantage.

Bonnie Wilson had an answer for Stony Brook's offense all day, picking up 22 digs in the match to go along with 16 kills.

Another late surge in game four allowed New Hampshire to take the match. Up 20-19, four Stony Brook errors gave the Wildcats a 24-20 advantage. Stony Brook got no closer than three points the rest of the way.

Susanne Westing had 18 digs to lead Stony Brook's defense. Rachel Goldsmith had 14 kill and eight digs and Julie Zub had 53 assists and 10 digs in the loss.

The Seawolves hit the road for five straight America East matches beginning Wednesday at Hartford.
