The Stony Brook women's swimming and diving team fell to Army, 142-101, in the season opener for both teams on Tuesday night.
The bright spot for the Seawolves came on the one- and three-meter diving boards. The tandem of Kristi Schubert and Erin Byrnes took the top two spots in both events. Schubert captured first place on the one-meter with a score of 217.50 and Byrnes duplicated that feat on the three-meter where she scored a 225.20. Both divers set meet records with their scores.
Other highlights for the Seawolves included the 400 medley relay team of Jessica Claud, Alison Porteus, Michelle Miller and Starlyn Rupinski with a first-place finish in 4:04.89, Rupinski's victory in the 200 free with a time of 2:00.73, Miller's win in the 200 fly with a time of 2:11.71, and Porteus's first-place finish in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:28.37.
For Army, Ashley Dellavalle captured first place in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events, Shannon Kelley collected first-place finishes in the 500- and 1000-yard free and Stacey Kalota was first in the 200 IM and the 200 backstroke.
Stony Brook's Sarah Doret was runner-up to Kelley in both the 500 (11:24.80) and 1000 freestyle (5:34.08).
The Seawolves return to the pool on Nov. 7 when they travel to face Wagner.
