Fordham Defeats Men's Swimming And Diving

Bronx, N.Y. - Fordham swept the Stony Brook swimming and diving team on Wednesday night, defeating the women's team by a score of 146-92, while the SBU men's team fell 137-84.

Alison Porteus and Jessica Claud continue to have impressive performances, as have set a new school record in all four dual meets so far this season. Porteus set a new SBU record in the 200 breaststroke in the first meet of the season and bettered that mark for the second time tonight, finishing in 2:26.90 to improve her previous time of 2:27.69. As for Claud, she set a new SBU record in the 200 backstroke with her time of 2:15.64.

Two Stony Brook relay teams--the 400 medley (Tanya Niemczycki, Porteus, Laura Zuffante and Michelle Miller) and the 400 free (Claud, Starlyn Rupinski, Sarah Doret and Miller) posted victories to help the Seawolves cause. The 400 medley won in 4:16.91, while the 400 free relay finished in a time of 3:44.71.

The men failed to win any races en route to their second loss of the season.

The women's team now stands at 0-4, while the men are 1-2.

Stony Brook hosts its first home meet of the season against Iona and St. Francis on Tuesday, Nov. 27, at University Pool. The meet begins at 6 p.m.
