LIU Hands Women's Basketball 81-73 Loss

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Tamika Dudley had 23 points and Kim Mac Millan scored 20 to lead Long Island University (1-1) to an 81-73 win over Stony Brook at the SBU Sports Complex Tuesday night.

The Seawolves (1-1) took a 34-32 lead into the lockerroom at halftime, but Mac Millan and Dudley keyed a 14-5 run to open the second half for a 46-39 edge.The lead grew to as much as 11 with just under 10 minutes before Stony Brook staged a comeback. Sherry Jordan went 4-of-4 from the line and Jennifer Metz's jumper brought the Seawolves to within three at 57-54. But Mac Millan countered with a three-pointer with 8:29 remaining, and the Seawolves could get no closer than four points the rest of the game. The Blackbirds grabbed their largest lead at 79-67 with just under a minute to play and held on for the win.

The Seawolves nailed their first six shots in the game, jumping out to a 13-4 lead. The Seawolves built the lead to 12 points--its largest of the game--with 4:32 left before the break. But then Stony Brook went cold, making just eight shots the rest of the half. LIU wasn't much better, as the Blackbirds failed to score for a seven-minute stretch. Stony Brook survived sloppy play in the half--the teams combined for 22 turnovers --to take the 34-32 halftime advantage.

LIU recovered from a cold first half to connect on 17-of-28 shots (61 percent) in the second, including a 5-for-10 effort from three-point range.

Sherry Jordan led all scorers with 26 points, 20 of those coming in the second half. She also grabbed eight rebounds and had seven assists. Jill George narrowly missed recording a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds, while Danielle DeGiorgio chipped in with 11 points and three boards.

Dudley recorded six rebounds and six assists to go along with her 23 points, and Tara Hamilton chipped in with 10 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
