EASTON, Pa. (AP) - Tyson Whitfield drove the lane and scored with 8 seconds
remaining in overtime to secure Lafayette's 80-76 victory over Stony Brook on
Monday.
Stony Brook (16-10) went up by 3 points on a layup by Mike Konopka with 44
seconds left in regulation. But a Seawolf foul on a Brian Burke 3-point attempt
with 21 seconds remaining sent Burke to the line where he tied the contest at
71 points and forced the overtime period.
Burke also hit a 3-pointer with 1:19 remaining in overtime to put Lafayette
(11-14) up by two at 78-76 before Whitfield's game-securing basket.
Konopka led Stony Brook's offense with 17 points, while Chris Balliro had 14
for the night.
Frank Barr led Lafayette's scoring with 12 points, while Ben Saxton and
Burke had 11 points each. Whitfield and Mike Farrell had 10 points each.
