Starlyn Rupinski and Igor Voloshin each placed in two individual events to lead the Seawolves to a third-place finish in both the men's and women's competition at the METS Championships at Rutgers University last weekend. Rupinski was second in the 200 free with a time of 1:58.88 and second in the 100 free with a time of 55.14. Not only that, she was on three relay teams that broke the school record in the 200, 400 and 800 free relays. In the 200 free relay, Rupinski, Lyndsay Sudol, Sue Slepetz and Laura Thorson finished fourth with a time of 1:42.51, breaking the old mark of 1:43.38. The 400 free relay--Sudol, Sarah Doret, Thorson and Rupinski--was fourth with a time of 3:43.76, breaking the old mark of 3:46.6. The 800 free relay--Doret, Thorson, Slepetz and Rupinski--was fifth with a time of 8:19.41, breaking the previous mark of 8:21.37. All three teams qualified for the ECAC Championships this weekend. Voloshin was runner-up in the 100 and 200 breast, setting a new school record in the 200. Voloshin swam the 100 in 55.14 and the 200 in 2:10.55, which bettered his time of 2:11.38. Sudol set a new school record in the 50 free with a time of 25.62, breaking the previous mark of 25.73 set by Rupinski earlier in the season. Jason Ferrara was the only other individual finisher for the Seawolves, coming in second in the 400 IM with a time of 4:20.49. The Seawolves captured the Dick Krempecki Most Outstanding Senior Award for both the men and women, as Shaden Zakour and Devin Bougie received the awards. Binghamton captured first place in the both the men's and women's competitions, while Southern Connecticut finished second. The Seawolves travel to compete at the ECAC Championships this weekend. Fifteen Seawolves have qualified for the competition, the highest number ever for Stony Brook.
