The Stony Brook men's tennis team had a tough go of it at the highly-competitive Cornell Invitational Saturday and Sunday to open the season. Collectively, the Seawolves won four matches against teams from Cornell, Princeton, Army, UMBC, Yale and Bloomsburg.
Top singles player Jens Pillgram-Larsen won his first match of the tournament, defeating Army's Arnoldo Albornoz, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. in the next match, he was eliminated by Cornell's Stefan Paulovic, 6-3, 6-4.
After losing his first match, Egil Anonsen defeated John Sabia of Army, 6-4, 6-4 before losing to Yale's Andrew Rosenfeld, 7-5, 6-4.
Anonsen and David Hewitt earned a doubles victory in the 'A' flight, defeating Lewis and Neuman, 8-4. The pair fell in the next match, 8-1, to Yale's Goldman and Rosenfeld. Patrick Drozdzik and James Carpenter defeated UMBC's Ferguson and Hardja before bowing out in the next match.
The Seawolves head to Harvard University for the ECAC's on October 5.
