STONY BROOK, N.Y. (AP) - Scott Bard threw touchdown passes of 15 and 67
yards to Londre Blocker and Stony Brook went on to a 24-14 victory over Sacred
Heart on Saturday. It was the Seawolves third straight win in their new facility which was renamed Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium in honor of the New York State Senator who helped make the new stadium at Stony Brook a reality.
Bard was 12-of-23 for 144 yards for the Seawolves (4-2, 3-2 Northeast
Conference), and Blocker had six receptions for 133 yards.
Chad King returned an interception 90 yards with 7:36 left in the fourth
quarter to give Stony Brook a 24-7 lead. For King it was his fourth interception of the year and his third big return for a touchdown this season. King returned a kickoff 94 yards and punt 67 yards for a TD in the season opener against St. John's.
Joe Kroells finished 21-of-41 for 216 yards for the Pioneers (3-3, 3-2),
including a 10-yard touchdown pass to Marlon Ward with 6:08 to play in the
game.
Bard's 15-yard pass to Blocker came four minutes into the game, while their
67-yard pass play came with 4:10 left in the first quarter. Michael Soto's
41-yard field goal made it 17-0 with 5:57 to go in the first half.
Eric Hernandez cut the lead to 17-7 with a 50-yard run with 2:24 left in the
half.
Stony Brook is back in action next Saturday when they hit the road for a non-conference matchup against Siena at 1 p.m.
