Freshman Michael Crooks advanced to the second round in the singles bracket of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Omni Hotel Regional Tournament in Philadelphia, Pa., on Friday.
Crooks earned a straight-set victory over St. John's Arnaud Agniel, 6-3, 7-5, to advance. He will face 13th-seeded Zach Gallin from Cornell in the second round on Saturday at 8 a.m.
In doubles action, Crooks and junior Philippe Amireault lost a tight contest to the West Virginia duo of Ian Bliss and Chris Green, 9-7.
