BOSTON (AP) - Troy Bell scored 22 points to become just the fourth player in
Boston College history to surpass 2,000 points Sunday, leading the Eagles to a
79-61 win over Stony Brook.
Bell, who has 2,003 points in his career, joins Dana Barros '89, Billy
Curley '94 and Danya Abrams '97.
Craig Smith scored a career-high 28 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the
Eagles (5-2), who have won four straight games. Ryan Sidney added 14 points and
11 rebounds.
Jairus McCollum had 20 points and 12 rebounds for Stony Brook (4-3).
The Seawolves hung close until midway into the second half before BC broke
it open with a 22-6 run over a 5:54 stretch. Smith had nine of the Eagles' last
12 points during the spree.
Boston College took the lead for good, 40-39, on Ryan Sidney's 3-point play
with 14:10 to go. Bell followed a 3-pointer from the right wing and Andrew
Bryant followed with another 3-pointer just under a minute later.
After Mike Konopka hit a 3-point shot for Stony Brook, Smith scored his 9
points as the Eagles took control.
It was the first meeting ever between the schools. Stony Brook is 0-10
lifetime against Big East teams.
The Eagles led 32-31 at the half.
