The Stony Brook men's and women's swimming and diving teams each broke school records in Saturday's tri-meet action. The men (7-2) downed St. Peter's, 100-7, but lost a heartbreaker to the Binghamton Bearcats by a score of 58-55. The women (4-5) also scored a split in the meet, with a 94-16 win over St. Peter's and a 67-46 loss to Binghamton.
Matt Hanson is the Seawolves new record holder in the 200 butterfly thanks to his 1:55.98 performance in the event. Nathan French continues to impress as a freshman. French tallied two first place finishes with times of 9:58.71 in the 1000 free and 4:51.77 in the 500 free. James Payne also snatched first place in two events with his 22.05 finish in the 50 free and 48.78 mark in the 100 free.
The team of Kim Harris, Michelle Miller, Jamie Bevilacqua and Starlyn Rupinski took second place in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:43.56, shaving two-tenths of a second of the old mark. Jessica Claud helped the Seawolves stay close with a first place finish in the 200 breaststroke and a second place mark in the 50 free. Harris also had a strong day individually with a second place 2:17.34 in the 200 IM and a second place spot in the 200 back. Erin Bowman scored a pair of runner-up spots on the afternoon, with her 11:16.19 in the 1000 free and 5:32.17 in the 500 free.
Kristi Schubert tallied a pair of first place finishes on the afternoon. Schubert posted a 230.55 on the one-meter and a 243.90 on the three-meter. Patrick Marcel also swept the men events with his 234.52 on the one-meter and his 259.42 on the three.
The team is off until January 18 when they travel to Vermont to take on the Catamounts. The meet is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
