Women's Basketball Falls To Hartford, 56-46

West Hartford, CT - The University of Hartford women's basketball team defeated the Stony Brook University Seawolves, 56-46, Friday night at The Chase Family Arena. Kenitra Johnson led all scorers with 13 points as Hartford improves to 11-12, 7-5 in America East play. Stony Brook falls to 12-10, 5-6 in conference play.

Both teams struggled offensively in the first half, with Hartford shooting 28.6% (6-21) and Stony Brook making just 24.0% (6-25) of its first half shots. However, the Hawks, after the Seawolves' Sarah Burkett tied the score at 17 with 4:13 left in the half, used an 8-4 run to go into halftime with a 25-21 lead.

Sherry Jordan, Stony Brook's leading scorer, picked up her fourth foul just 10 seconds into the second stanza, and the Hawks responded with a 19-8 run, including 11 straight over a seven minute span, to open up a 44-30 lead with 7:34 remaining in the game. The Seawolves responded with an 11-0 run of their own, with Jordan scoring seven in a row at one point, to cut the lead to four, 44-40, with 4:47 left on the clock. The Hawks outscored Stony Brook 12-6 the rest of the way, including 8-2 over the last 2:25 to even the season series with the Seawolves, and move into a four-way tie for third in the America East standings.

Johnson added seven rebounds and two blocks to her game-high 13 points, while Kelly Ann Charles added eight points and seven boards off the bench. Jordan led Stony Brook with 12 points, while Jill George added seven points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
