Seawolves Split On Second Day Of Tournament

Fairfield, Conn. - The Stony Brook Seawolf (8-3) volleyball team split two games on the final day of the Fairfield Volleyball Classic by defeating the Harvard Crimson in the opening match, but fell to tournament host Fairfield (4-5) by a score of 3-0 (30-21, 30-20, 30-26) later.

Sophomore Valerie Maloy (Gibsonia, Pa.) has totally shaken all signs of her early-season ankle injury and led the team in kills with 16 in the Fairfield match. Junior Rachel Goldsmith (Aurora, Ill.) was second on the team in kills with six, followed by sophomore Maria Samilo (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) with five. Stony Brook posted a .118 hitting performance in the loss compared to a .252 mark from Fairfield. Both Goldsmith and sophomore Abby Egan (Lansing, Mich.) had 10 digs in the match.

The volleyball team is off until Friday when they travel to Buffalo, N.Y. to participate in the WNY Holiday Inn Invitational. The Seawolves take on Canisius on Friday and Youngstown State and Cleveland State on Saturday.
