The Stony Brook men's tennis team competed at the Cornell University Invitational over the weekend, winning a first round doubles matches and capturing three consolation singles matches.
The duo of freshmen Tal Meir and Michael Crooks won their first match in Flight A doubles, defeating Yale's team of Godsowski/Arons, 8-6. The team fell in its next match, 8-3, to the second-seeded team of Hagman/Sacullio from Colgate.
Stony Brook's team of juniors Egil Anonsen and Philippe Amireault entered Flight B doubles as the top-ranked team, but after receiving a bye in the first round, Army's Graham/Fisher topped the Seawolves, 8-6.
Meir and Anonsen were defeated in the first round of Flight A singles, but both came back to win in the consolation bracket. Meir won 6-2, 6-3, while Anonsen posted a 7-6, 6-2 victory.
Sophomore James Carpenter fell in the Flight C singles first round, but won his consolation match in straight sets, 5-7, 7-5 (10-8).
The Seawolves return to action this weekend at the UConn Invitational.
