STONY BROOK, N.Y. (AP) - Shon Brownlee returned a kickoff 97 yards for a
touchdown at 8:22 of the fourth quarter to give Stony Brook a 24-20 comeback
victory over Albany, N.Y., in the first ever Ray Downey Heroes Classic.
The winning score came 17 seconds after the Seawolves (2-1, 1-1 Northeast
Conference) fell behind the Great Danes (2-2, 1-1) 20-17 on Gary Jones' 1-yard
TD run.
Scott Bard complete 19 of 29 passes for 201 yards for the Seawolves, and
combined with Jophiel Philips for two TDs - 22 yards at 4:20 of the first
quarter and 4:13 of the fourth.
Albany quarterback Ryan Roeder rushed 9 yards for a score, and went 17-of-25
for 204 yards. Stan Zylinski contributed kicked a 22-yard field goal at 4:20 of
the first quarter, and added a 40-yarder at 1:06 of the second.
Chris McGovern set new career highs with nine catches for 132 yards. Philips was named the Ray Downey Heroes Classic MVP for his two touchdown performance.
