The Stony Brook men's and women's swim teams spent part of their Christmas holiday in Irvine, Calif., by participating in the 23rd Annual Daktronics/UC Irvine Relay Meet at the Anteater Aquatics Center on the campus of the University of California-Irvine Sunday afternoon. Both the men's and women's relay team posted strong outings in Sunday's relay meet which included UC Irvine, Texas Christian, California Polytechnic-San Luis Obisp, University of Nevada-Reno, San Diego State and Pepperdine.
The men scored three fourth-place finishes on the day, with a time of 3:16.40 in the 3x100 breast and a time of 3:16.64 in the 4x100 free relay. The men also took fourth in the 3x100 back, posting a 2:46.07. The men's side finished sixth out of 16 in the 4x50 free relay with a time of 1:29.35 and took sixth out of 18 competitors in the 3x100 IM. The team closed the day by taking seventh in the 800 free with a time of 7:30.80 and eighth out of 14 in the 400 medley relay.
The women's side had two impressive performances in Sunday's events. The relay team finished nine out of 19 competitors in the 3x100 breast with a time of 3:39.74 and took 11th out of 20 in the 400 medley relay thanks to a time of 4:14.04.
The entire Stony Brook swimming and diving team is back in action Jan. 18th when they travel to Vermont to take on the Catamounts. The meet is scheduled for a 12 p.m. start.
