The Stony Brook men's tennis team posted two solid wins on Saturday afternoon, slipping past Hofstra 4-3 while sweeping Wagner 7-0. James Carpenter and Michael Crooks each picked up two singles victories, while teaming up for two wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Against Hofstra, the Seawolves started out with victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to win the doubles point. The team of Michael Crooks / James Carpenter topped Matt Sehor/ Rob Sfurza, 8-5 at No. 2, while Jean-Francois Robitaille / Philippe Amireault defeated Jared Coggan/Neuman 8-2. At No. 1, the duo of Tal Meir / Egil Anonsen fell to Djordjevic/Teixeira, 8-6.
Stony Brook then captured wins at No. 2, 4 and 6 singles to earn the win. At No. 2, Tal Meir defeated Matt Schor, 6-4, 6-1. At No. 4, Egil Anonsen topped Jared Coggan, 6-3, 6-1. James Carpenter followed up with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Mario Hluch at No. 6.
Against Wagner, the Seawolves started off with a sweep of the doubles round, getting an 8-0 win from Crooks/Carpenter at No. 1, an 8-1 victory from Meir/Anonsen at No. 2 and an 8-1 win from Robitaille/ Matt Jacobson at No. 3.
The Seawolves dominated in singles action, sweeping all six matches. Meir picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win over Greg Auola at No. 1, while Crooks topped Steve Johnson, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2. Amireault defeated Dan Burns 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3, and Carpenter defeated Anthony Fernandez at No. 4 and Jacobsen topped Jeff Quitmeyer at No. 5, each by scores of 6-0, 6-0. Rush Shah finished up by defeating Brandom Sogliuzzo, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 6.
