Stony Brook, N.Y. - Despite an outstanding effort by senior Tesha Harry, the Stony Brook volleyball team dropped a five game heartbreaker to visiting Albany by scores of 30-20, 26-30, 25-30, 30-25, 15-11 on Saturday evening at the SBU Sports Complex. With the loss, the Seawolves fell to 13-11 overall and 4-3 in America East Conference play, while Albany improved to 20-6 and 5-2.

Harry dominated all match, posting 24 kills and no errors on 37 attempts for a .649 hitting percentage.

The Seawolves fell behind early in the fifth game, 5-2, but after a timeout pulled within one after two errors by Albany. That's as close as they could get however, as the Great Danes slowly began to pull away to win the game 15-11 and take the match.

Stony Brook came out slow in the first, falling behind by as much as nine early in the game. The Seawolves would pull back within five but couldn't get any closer as Albany closed the game with an 8-2 run to win 30-19.

SBU bounced back in the second, taking a 14-9 lead on a block assist by Harry and Danielle MacKnight and an ace by Rachel Goldsmith. Albany rallied to tie it at 19, but Stony Brook rattled off six straight points and didn't look back, taking the set 30-26.

The Seawolves were unstoppable in the third, hitting .405 with 18 kills on 37 swings and just three errors to win 30-25.

Both teams struggled in the fourth, with Stony Brook committing eight errors and hitting just .125 and Albany posting seven errors and hitting .194. The Great Danes came out on top however, earning a 5-4 lead early and never allowing the Seawolves to get closer than three points away to win 30-25.

Maria Samilo and Rachel Goldsmith each posted 10 kills for the Seawolves, while Julie Zub added 51 assists.

Eileen Nicole Rodriguez totaled a match-high 29 kills to go with 14 digs, while Shelby Goldman collected 19 kills for the Great Danes.

The Seawolves return to action on Tuesday when they host Hartford at 6:00 p.m.
