Fordham scored 10 unanswered points over the final 3:24 of the game to lift the Rams to a 54-47 victory over Stony Brook at Rose Hill Gym on Saturday night. With the loss, the Seawolves fell to 1-5 on the season, while Fordham improved to 3-3.
Stony Brook held a 27-23 advantage at the break, but the Rams tied the game at 29 just under three minutes into the second. The Seawolves went back up by three, 44-41, on a pair of free throws by Jessica Smith at the 7:10 mark, but Fordham tied it again just under a minute later.
An Inbar Orion jumper followed by a free throw by Kelly Watson made it 47-44 in favor of the visitors with 5:10 to play, but those would be the last points SBU would score in the contest.
After a layup by Kyshawn Ruff tied it at 47, Lauren Fleischer hit back-to-back layups in the midst of a 10-0 run to make it 51-47 at the 1:33 mark and put the game away.
Smith led the Seawolves with 11 points to go with six rebounds, while Orion, who took three charges in the game, collected her first career double-double with a 10-point, 11-rebound performance. Sherry Jordan added six steals for SBU.
For Fordham, Beth Ann Dickinson scored a game-high 17 points, including the 1,000th of her career, while Fleischer added 15 points and eight rebounds.
The Seawolves return to action in the first day of the Hawk Classic in Philadelphia, Pa., on December 28 when they take on St. Joseph's at 2:00 p.m
