The Stony Brook men's tennis team had a tough opener to their spring season, falling 6-1 to Army in West Point, N.Y., on Saturday afternoon.
The Black Knights captured five singles matches and the doubles point to earn the win.
The only point for Stony Brook came courtesy of freshman Jean-Francois Robitaille, who was playing in his first collegiate match. Playing at No. 3 singles, Robitaille outlasted Rafael Albornoz, 7-6, 6-7, 10-7, to win the match.
Robitaille was also victorious in doubles action, although the Black Knights won the other two doubles matches to earn the first point of the day. Robitaille teamed with David Hewitt at No. 2 doubles to earn an 8-6 victory over John Sabia and Jarrett Skrobarcek.
Brothers Arnie and Rafael Albornoz got things started with an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles against Egil Anonsen and Michael Crooks. Carl Fisher and Steven Srivastava paired at No. 3 doubles to notch an 8-3 win over Philippe Amireault.
Sabia posted a 6-2, 7-6 win over Anonsen at the top singles spot. Arnie Albornoz extended the Army lead to 3-0 defeating Crooks, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. Steven Srivastava clinched the Army (2-0) win with a 6-4, 6-1, victory against Hewitt. Skrobarcek stopped Amireault, 6-3, 6-3, at the fifth singles spot. Fisher blanked Shah in the final singles position, 6-0, 6-0.
The Seawolves return to action next weekend when both the women's and men's teams travel to face Lehigh.
