The Stony Brook men's and women's tennis teams earned victories over America East Conference opponent Hartford on Wednesday afternoon. The men's team posted a 6-1 victory while the women's team won, 7-0.
On the men's side, Hartford won just one singles match and one doubles match. The Seawolves (5-7, 3-1 America East) earned the doubles point with an 8-6 victory at No. 2 and an 8-2 win at No. 3. In singles action, No. 3 Egil Anonsen, No. 4 Jean-Francois Robitaille, No. 5 Philippe Amireault and No. 6 James Carpenter all recorded straight-set victories. Anonsen defeated Jeff Hurlbert, 6-4, 6-4; Robitaille earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Clint Broadie; Amierault posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Christoffer Hartmann; and Carpenter defeated Evan Sideman, 6-2, 6-1.
No. 2 MIke Crooks was leading Patrick Flint, 6-1, 4-4, when the match was retired. Pedja Zdrakovic earned the Hawks' (6-5, 0-3) only victory, defeating Gareth Williams in the No. 1 spot, 6-2, 6-1.
The women's team (6-6, 3-2) won their third straight match with a perfect 7-0 win over Hartford. The Hawks failed to win a match, although the No. 1 doubles match was retired after the Seawolves captured the point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3.
Stony Brook dominated singles play, winning all six matches in straight sets. No. 1 Anne Cathrine Valle posted a 6-4, 6-0 win over Ana Maria Mora, while Patricia Gomez defeated Alexis Alexander at No. 2, 6-0, 6-3. At No. 3 singles, Karen Hansen recorded a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Lauren Perry. Georgia Bushell defeated Crystallia Leontiadis at No. 4, 6-1, 6-1, while No. 5 Lauren Conching earned a 6-2, 6-4 win over Stefanie Leontiadis. Claire Shean completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Angela Venincasa in the No. 6 spot.
The men's team returns to action on Thursday against Manhattan in a 3 p.m. start, while the women's team next faces Army on Saturday at 2 p.m.
