Sept. 20, 2003

Box Score

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Hofstra scored two goals in the second half to break open a 1-0 game en route to a 3-0 win over the Stony Brook men's soccer team Saturday afternoon at LaValle Stadium. The loss was the second straight for the Seawolves as they slipped to 2-5.

Hofstra broke a scoreless tie in the 41st minute when a nifty pass from Arni Gunnarson sent Jason Gates in all alone on Stony Brook goalkeeper Dan Ferrin at the top of the penalty box. Gates made no mistake, blasting a shot that deflected off Ferrin and into the net for a 1-0 lead.

The Pride added to their lead early in the second half when Arman Ossoli set up Paulo Walters on a breakaway and Walters fired a shot past the onrushing Ferrin at 51:55. Michael Todd sealed the win in the 79th minute, drilling a left-footed shot into the lower right-hand corner of the net for a 3-0 lead.

Hofstra netminder Daniel Greening made six saves to earn the win while Ferrin made seven saves for Stony Brook.

Stony Brook is back in action on September 24 when it hosts Sacred Heart at University Field. Kick-off is 4 p.m.
