Goldsmith Powers Volleyball To 3-0 Sweep Over Canisius

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook volleyball team earned its first win of the season with a decisive 3-0 victory over Canisius College in Game 3 of the 2003 Holiday Inn Express Invitational on Saturday morning at the Indoor Sports Complex. The Seawolves (1-4) defeated the Golden Griffins (2-5) by scores of 30-19, 30-25, 30-25 in the first of four matches on the day.

Rachel Goldsmith powered the Seawolves to victory, totaling a match-high 15 kills and seven digs. Maria Samilo chipped in with 12 kills and setter Julie Zub charted 44 assists in the three-game sweep.

The Seawolves were outstanding defensively, recording 53 digs and eight blocks, led by libero Abby Egan's 18 digs. Stony Brook will take on LIU-Brooklyn in the final match of the day at 5:30 p.m.
