Men's Soccer Falls to Marist, 3-1

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The Stony Brook men's soccer team fell to Marist, 3-1, on Saturday evening at Leonidoff Field in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. With the loss, the Seawolves fell to 0-3 on the season, while the Red Foxes improved to 1-0-1.

Patrick Safino opened up the scoring with an unassisted goal just 3:40 into the game to give Marist a 1-0 lead. Keith Detelj added another tally for the Red Foxes with just under four minutes remaining in the half, hitting the lower left corner of the goal to put Marist up, 2-0, at the intermission.

David Musinski added the third goal for the Red Foxes in the 77th minute before Chong Hon scored his first goal of the season, an unassisted tally with four minutes left in the game.

Mike Valenti turned away three shots to earn the win in goal for Marist, while Matt Thibdeau stopped two shots for the Seawolves in the loss.

The Seawolves return to Long Island for their home opener on Wednesday, September 10 to take on St. Francis (N.Y.) at 7:00 p.m.
