Stony Brook, N.Y. -
The Stony Brook men's and women's swimming and diving teams posted their second sweep in as many days, defeating the University of Maine at University Pool on Sunday afternoon. The men's team dominated the Black Bears, winning 132-98 and improving to 7-4 on the season, while the women evened their record at 6-6 with a 129-114 victory.
The men's squad excelled all day as Stony Brook was victorious in every men's event. The Seawolves were led by a number of multiple winners, with Jeffrey Chu and Ted Freeborn winning three events each. Chu placed first in the 100 backstroke and 400 IM and joined Nathan French, James Payne and Frank Schursky to win the 200 medley relay. Freeborn won the 100 and 200 freestyle and teamed with Payne, Matt Hanson and Dan Berzansky to win the 400 freestyle relay.
The women's team set three school records en route to their second consecutive victory. Shirlee Manoogian shattered the previous record in the 400 IM by ten seconds and broke her own record in the 100 butterfly before joining Kim Harris, Jamie Bevilacqua and Allison DeSanti to set a new mark in the 400 freestyle relay. Manoogian has now set 11 Seawolves records since she transferred this year from the University of Maryland to Stony Brook. Harris won two individual events of her own, touching the wall first in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke, while Bevilacqua placed first in the 200 freestyle.
The Seawolves are back in action on January 24 when they battle the Red Storm at St. John's University at 1 p.m.
