Men's Swimming and Diving Downs Fairfield 130-103

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept past Fairfield University at University Pool on Saturday afternoon. The women's squad upended the Stags 130-106 to improve to 7-7 on the season, while the men defeated Fairfield 130-103 to bring their record to 8-5 this year.

The Seawolves had a solid all-around effort on the men's side as seven different swimmers combined to win eight of the eleven events. Matt Hanson led a clean sweep in the 200 IM, placing first over teammates Kirill Alekseyev and Jeffrey Chu. Alekseyev went on to win the 200 breastroke and Chu came home first in the 200 butterfly. The Seawolves also swept the top three spots in the 50 freestyle and 200 backstroke, with James Payne and Billy Fick touching the wall first, respectively.

The women's team was led by Shirlee Manoogian who continued her strong season, shattering the the record in the 500 freestyle by over four seconds en route to victory. Her time of 5:08.16 broke a 20-year old record and is the 12th mark she's topped this season. She also touched the wall first in the 50 freestyle and teamed with Kim Harris, Alison Porteus and Kate Zabler to win the 400 medley relay. Harris was victorious in the 200 backstroke, breaking her own record by over one-half second, while Porteus placed first in the 200 breaststroke and Zabler won the 200 butterfly. Hailey Lewandowski excelled on the diving board, placing first in the 1-meter and third in the 3-meter dive.

The Seawolves are back in action on February 7 when they face Binghamton University on Senior Day in the last regular season meet of the year.
