Binghamton Tops Volleyball in Five

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook women's volleyball team fell to Binghamton in five games, 26-30, 30-27, 24-30, 30-23, 15-12, on Friday evening at the Stony Brook Sports Complex. With the loss, the Seawolves' record evens at 11-11, 3-3 in America East play. Binghamton improves to 13-12, 3-3.

The Seawolves opened the match well, taking the opening game, 30-26, as Maria Samilo led the way with seven kills while hitting .333 for the game. Binghamton bounced back with a 30-27 win in Game 2 before the Seawolves took a 2-1 advantage with a 30-24 win in Game 3.

The Bearcats continued to battle taking Game 4, 30-23, to force a deciding fifth game. Binghamton controlled the clincher, taking an early lead and holding off Seawolves rallies to win the match in five games.

Samilo led the Seawolves with a career-high 25 kills while hitting .315 for the match. Melissa Votruba added 17 kills while Danielle MacKnight posted 11 kills and Abby Egan totaled 40 digs.

The Seawolves are back in action tomorrow when they host rival Albany at 4 p.m.
