Stony Brook, N.Y.- Seawolves freshman Morgan Sweany (Mission Viejo, Calif.) had 9 kills and 12 digs, as Albany University women's volleyball team defeated Stony Brook 3-1 (30-26, 23-30, 27-30, 26-30) on Saturday afternoon at the SBU Sports Complex. With the loss the Seawolves fall to 11-12 on the season and 3-4 in conference play, while Albany improves to 18-5 and 7-0.
Stony Brook's Melissa Votruba (Ancaster, Ont./Southern Miss.) had 19 kills and three digs, while senior Danielle MacKnight (Valley Stream, N.Y.) recorded 10 kills on the day. Albany's Ashlee Reed, who was the only player to tally a double-double on the afternoon had 16 kills and 14 digs.
Senior Julie Zub (St. Louis, Mo.) had 44 assists and 8 digs for SB, and senior Abby Egan (Lansing, Mich.) registered 27 digs.
The Great Danes had four players recording multiple kills, Ashley Hunter (20), Shelby Goldman (14) and Ashley Green (17), to lead Albany to a 3-1 win over Stony Brook. Ashley DeNealhad recorded 34 digs in the four games to help the Great Danes stay undefeated in conference play.
Stony Brook finished the match with 61 kills, while Albany had 84. The Great Danes had an 87-70 margin in digs.
Stony Brook returns to action Tuesday as it travels to the UMBC for a conference match-up that begins at 7 p.m.
