Seawolves Sweep New Hampshire

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Melissa Votruba had 12 kills and hit .600 for the match as the Stony Brook volleyball team downed New Hampshire by scores of 30-23, 30-19, 30-18 on Friday night at the Indoor Sports Complex. With the win, the Seawolves improve to 12-13 on the season and 4-5 in America East play while the Wildcats fell to 6-18, 2-7.

Morgan Sweany led a strong defensive effort for the Seawolves in Game 1, posting 13 digs to lead the Seawolves to a 30-23 win in the opener. Votruba took over in Game 2, putting away four kills while hitting .800 for the game as Stony Brook breezed to a 30-19 win. Votruba and Maria Samilo each picked up five kills as the Seawolves hit .519 in Game 3 for a 30-18 victory.

Votruba led all players with 12 kills and a .600 hitting percentage, while Sweany posted a double-double with 10 kills and 19 digs. Danielle MacKnight chipped in with nine kills and seven block assists and Julie Zub paced the attack with 39 assists and nine digs.

UNH was led by Erin Walker, Natasha Otte and Toni Barnas, who totaled eight kills apiece.

The Seawolves are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they host Maine at 3 p.m.
