Anthony Barberio had a goal and an assist as the Stony Brook men's soccer team registered its seventh win in nine outings to improve its record to 7-1-1, 1-0-1 in conference play. With the win, head coach Cesar Markovic recorded his 100th career victory and was honored in a postgame ceremony.
Barberio got the Seawolves on the board early in the first half after a foul just outside the UMBC penalty area. Barbero bent a beautiful direct kick over the wall and into the near upper-90 of the goal for his second goal of the season at 10:23. Barberio continued to spark the Seawolves offense and later in the first half lifted a pass in the penalty area that Chris Megaloudis chipped over the UMBC goalie for a 2-0 lead.
The Seawolves continued to press in the second half and broke through in the 68th minute when Zach Norwood converted a cross from Michael Palacio to stake the hosts to a 3-0 lead.
Stony Brook goalkeeper John Moschella record six saves to earn the third shutout of the season and SB's fourth in the last five games.
UMBC's (4-3-1, 0-2) Andy Marchia made four saves in the loss.
Stony Brook is back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Vermont. Kick-off is 3 p.m.
