Seawolves Sweep Hartford

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook women's volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 victory over Hartford on Friday evening at Pritchard Gym. Maria Samilo and Danielle MacKnight each tallied 14 kills to lead the Seawolves to 30-23, 30-19, 30-23 wins to improve to 14-15 this season, 6-7 in the America East. With the loss, Hartford fell to 5-26, 0-13.

Samilo and Melissa Votruba dominated the first game, pounding five kills apiece and hitting .500 and .667, respectively. Julie Zub was excellent as well, assisting on 17 kills and adding seven digs in the opening game for the 30-23 win.

MacKnight took control in Game 2, tallying six kills and hitting .750 for the game. As a team, the Seawolves hit .406 in the game as they took a commanding 2-0 lead with a 30-19 victory.

Game 3 belonged to Kelli Sams, who came off the bench to put away five kills in 11 attempts for a .364 hitting percentage. Zub assisted on 16 more kills in the third game as the Seawolves clinched the match with a 30-23 win.

MacKnight and Samilo led the team with 14 kills apiece, while Votruba added 10 kills and Zub contributed 46 assists and 12 digs. Claire Lindner added 14 digs and Abby Egan chipped in with 12.

Teri Connolly led the Hartford offense with nine kills and Mary Frances Feldman added eight putaways. Brianne Paulson paced the attack with 27 assists.

The Seawolves are back in action tomorrow at 7 p.m. when they face Northeastern to conclude the regular season. It will be the final match for four seniors, Egan, MacKnight, Samilo and Zub.
