The Stony Brook women's volleyball team concluded the 2004 season with a 3-1 loss to Northeastern on Saturday evening in Pritchard Gymnasium. The loss dropped the Seawolves' record to 14-16 at season's end, 6-8 in the America East. Northeastern improved to 20-10, 11-3.
The Seawolves were downed in four games by scores of 30-27, 28-30, 30-25 and 30-23. After falling in the opening game, the Brook stormed back to take a tight second game as Melissa Votruba tallied seven kills while hitting .583 for the game.
Game 3 went back and forth before Northeast took control in the final ten points to secure a 30-25 victory. The Seawolves put up a fight in Game 4, but Northeastern proved to be too much as the Huskies put Stony Brook away with a 30-23 win to seal the match.
Votruba led the Seawolves with 14 kills while Maria Samilo registered 13 putaways and Morgan Sweany added 12 kills and 22 digs. Julie Zub assisted on 43 kills and posted 12 digs while Abby Egan added 19 digs in the loss.
Northeastern was led by Whitney Turner's 20 kills, while Karrin Moore and Larissa Adomat each had 12 putaways.
It was the final match in Stony Brook red for four seniors, Egan, Danielle MacKnight, Samilo and Zub.
