Women's Basketball Falls to Delaware 83-58

Newark, Del. - Delaware's Tyresa Smith netted 10 second half points to help the Fightin' Blue Hens open up a 26 piont lead midway through the second half as Delaware topped Stony Brook 83-58 on Tuesday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.

Delaware (2-1) opened the game on a 11-1 run, holding the Seawolves scoreless for the opening 4:15 of play. Stony Brook (0-2) chipped at the lead, using a 6-0 spurt on a pair of baskets by Inbar Orion to cut it to 11-7 at the 14:30 mark.

UD pushed the lead back to 11 at 21-10, but the Seawolves fought back once again to pull within three at 24-21 with 6:55 to play on five points by Mykeema Ford. The Blue Hens closed the half outscoring SB 15-7 to take a 39-28 lead at the break.

UD put the game away early in the second half, building as much as a 26 second-point advantage behind Smith's 10 points.

Ford led all scorers with 26 points, while Stephanie Barlett added 11. Dana Ferraro chipped in with nine rebounds for the Seawolves.

Smith led the Blue Hens with 18 pints, while Alena Koshansky added 15 points.

The Seawolves are back in action on Saturday when they host Pittsburgh in the second game of the Holiday Inn Express Invitational at 3:00 p.m.
