Shirlee Manoogian set three new Stony Brook marks in the 100 freestyle, 400 IM and 50 freestyle to led the Stony Brook women over Boston University, 161-136, Saturday afternnon in the University Pool. On the men's side, it was Stony Brook 178, Boston University 117, as Ted Freeborn and Jeffrey Chu helped lead the squad on their Senior Day.
Manoogian touched the wall first in the 50 freestyle in a time of :24.22, breaking her own record of :24.66. She then went on to win the 100 freestyle in a time of :52.11, shattering her old record of :53.96. She finished the day with a new mark for the Seawolves in her 4:30.91 first place finish in the 400 IM, blowing by her old record of 4:35.99 in the event.
The women started the meet strong as Manoogian was joined by teammates Kim Harris, Alison Porteus and Allison DeSanti, to win the 200 medley. Porteus came through for the Seawolves with two first place finishes in the 100 and 200 breaststroke races. Jamie Bevilacqua touched the wall first in the 500 freestyle and in the 200 freestyle to help Stony Brook to victory. She was joined by teammates Autumn Griggers, Courtney Teague and Harris to take another top spot in the 200 freestyle relay. Harris took two individual firsts in the 100 and 200 backstroke races.
On the men's side, Ted Freeborn posted a first place time of :21.19 in the 50 freestyle and went on to help his 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams to first place finishes. He was joined by teammates Alexei Smirnov, Jeffrey Chu and Kirill Alekseyev in the 200 medley relay. Freeborn and Aleksyev teamed up with fellow seniors, Roger Pugh and James Berkowitz in the 200 freestyle relay.
Chu posted two individual first place finishes in the 100 butterfly and in the 200 butterfly in his last meet at home. Nathan French took three individual firsts in the 200 backstroke, 500 freestyle and 1000 freestyle. Vladimir Sreckovic touched the wall first in both the 100 breaststroke and the 200 breaststroke, helping the Seawolves over the Terriers.
The Seawolves are back in action January 22 for a 1:00 p.m. tri-meet with Vermont and St. Peter's.
