The Stony Brook men's tennis team continued its early season dominance with victories over Lehigh and Howard in Bethlehem, Pa., on Saturday. The Seawolves defeated Lehigh 5-2 in the morning session and swept past Howard 7-0 in the afternoon.
The Seawolves started the day with a sweep of Lehigh in the doubles competition. Tal Meir and Jean-Francois Robitaille had the toughest match, winning 9-7 at first doubles, while Alamgir Wali and Egil Anonsen (8-4) and Michael Crooks and James Carpenter (8-2) cruised to victories and second and third doubles, respectively. Meir continued his success at first singles, easing to a 6-2, 6-2 victory, while Wali (6-0, 6-4), Robitaille (6-1, 6-0) and Anonsen (6-4, 6-3) were victorious at the number three through five spots to earn the 5-2 victory for Stony Brook.
Stony Brook was too much for Howard in the afternoon session, sweeping all nine matches. Wali and Anonsen (8-5), Meir and Robitaille (9-7) and Crooks and Carpenter (8-1) cruised to victories to stay perfect on the day in doubles competition. Wali stormed back after dropping the first set to win at second singles 3-6, 6-1, 6-3, while Meir, Crooks, Robitaille, Anonsen and Carpenter all won their matches in straight sets.
The Seawolves are back in action on February 28 when they hit the road to take on the Princeton Tigers at 5 p.m.
