Albany Outlasts Stony Brook 80-73 in Overtime

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Despite a tremendous effort off the bench by Bojana Bogetic and a buzzer-beater by Mykeema Ford to send the game into overtime, the Stony Brook women's basketball team fell to Albany 80-73 on Wednesday night at the SBU Sports Complex. The loss snapped the Seawolves four-game winning streak and dropped SB to 6-16 overall, 5-8 in the America East. Albany improved to 9-13, 6-7 in the America East.

Tied at 73 with 1:30 left in overtime, Albany's Maree Jones converted a three-point play to give the visitors a 76-73 lead and the Great Danes connected on 4-of-6 free throws to put the game out of reach. The Seawolves missed their final four shots and turned the ball over twice in the final 1:30 as Albany pulled away.

Bogetic came off the bench to spark a 14-0 run by the Seawolves as they pushed out to a 57-50 lead with seven minutes left in the second half. The Great Danes responded with a 18-9 run, capped by two free throws by Becky Ayers to make the score 68-66 with 4.5 seconds to play. Ford took the inbounds pass and dribbled the length of the court before banking in a 15-footer as time expired to force overtime.

Albany led by six, 34-28, with 1:11 left in the first half after one of Ayres' five three pointers in the period. After back-to-back turnovers by each team, Ford missed a driving layup with 10 seconds to go. Danielle Hutcheson pulled down the rebound, but her outlet pass was picked off by Akia Booker at mid-court and she sank a 30-footer at the buzzer to cut Albany's lead to 34-31 at the break.

Ford led Stony Brook with 21 points. Jessica Smith added 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Bogetic netted 12 points and grabbed eight boards in just 18 minutes of play. Sherry Jordan added nine rebounds and seven assists.

Albany was led by Ayres' game-high 26 points, while Hutcheson added 21 points and 12 rebounds.

The Seawolves are back in action on Saturday when the travel to Vestal, N.Y., to take on Binghamton at 1 p.m.
