The Stony Brook men's and women's tennis teams swept past Hartford on Saturday afternoon at University Courts. The men posted a 6-1 victory to improve to an impressive 10-1
on the season, while Anne Catherine Valle helped Stony
Brook to a 5-4 triumph over Hartford to complete the sweep of the Hawks. With the win, the women's team improves to 5-4 this year.
Tal Meir won a No. 1 singles, rallying to defeat Patrick Flint of Hartford
after dropping the first set 6-4. He bounced to take the next two sets 6-2
and 6-4. The Seawolves went on to win every singles matchup with Michael
Crooks (6-0, 6-3) and Alamgir Wali (6-2, 6-0) winning
in straight sets at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. Jean-Francois Robitaille (6-1, 6-0), Egil
Anonsen (6-3, 6-2) and Philippe Amireault (6-1, 6-1) also won their singles
matches in straight sets. Crooks and James Carpenter teamed up to win at
No. 3 doubles, 8-2.
On the women's side, Stony Brook edged Hartford 5-4 as
Valle won 6-0, 6-1 over Hartford's Ani Mori at No. 1 singles, and teamed with Georgia Bushell to take No. 1 doubles, 8-5. Bushell also won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, while Lauren Conching (6-2, 6-2) and Victoria Vasile (6-0,
6-3) captured singles victories.
The women's team will be back in action on March 31 at home versus Manhattan, while the men's team will take the court April 3 when Southern Miss and Army come town.
