Jen Sandtorv made 18 saves while Amy Taylor and Stephanie DeGennaro scored three goals apiece to lead Stony Brook to a 10-4 win over Vermont in America East women's lacrosse action Friday night at LaValle Stadium. The Seawolves closed the game by scoring six unanswered goals over the final 19 minutes of the game to snap a three-game losing streak. The win improved Stony Brook to 5-6, 1-2 in America East play.
Vermont's Sarah Booker knotted the game at four with a unassisted goal at 24:18 of the second half to cap a 3-0 run for UVM. Stony Brook responded less than five minutes later as Amy Taylor's second goal of the game snapped SB's scoreless drought of over 22 minutes to put the Seawolves ahead for good.
Taylor's goal sparked the hosts as they dominated the rest of the game. Taylor then set up Carlee Buck for her second goal of the night at 14:20 and Buck returned the favor 18 seconds later by setting up Taylor's hat trick which gave the Seawolves a 7-4 lead.
Stephanie DeGennaro took over from there, scoring three consecutive goals down the stretch to seal the win. She completed her three-goal outburst with 2:38 remaining, converting a feed from Beth Arikian.
Sandtorv was outstanding again in goal for Stony Brook, setting a new career high by turning aside 18 Catamount shots, several from point-blank range. Taylor and DeGennaro each finished with three goals and an assist while Buck totaled five points with a pair of goals and three assists.
Kate McBride also turned in a terrific effort for Vermont in goal, making 15 saves in the loss.
The Seawolves are back in action on Tuesday when they host Wagner. Game time is 7 p.m.
