Volleyball Downed by LIU in Four Games

Storrs, Conn. - The Stony Brook women's volleyball team fell 3-1 to Long Island University on Friday afternoon at the UConn Invitational in Storrs, Conn. With the loss, the Seawolves fell to 2-3 this season, while LIU improved to 5-1.

Stony Brook started the match well, taking the opening game 30-27 on the strength of 15 kills. LIU bounced back, however, winning Game 2, 30-27, and cruising to a 30-16 win in Game 3 before clinching the match with a 30-24 win in the fourth game.

Melissa Votruba and Morgan Sweany led the Seawolves offensively, posting 11 kills apiece. Sweany added 12 digs while teammate Abby Egan recorded 28 digs and Julie Zub assisted on 26 kills.

The Seawolves hit the court later today when they take on Holy Cross at 5 pm in their second match of the UConn Invitational.
