Sept. 26, 2004

Box Score

West Hartford, Conn. - The Stony Brook men's soccer team opened up its 2004 America East schedule with a 2-2 tie at Hartford on Sunday afternoon. The Seawolves, who battled back to tie the match twice, move to 5-1-1 on the season and 0-0-1 in conference play, while Hartford stands at 2-4-2 and 0-0-1.

The Hawks took a 1-0 lead 25:26 into the match on a goal by Nir Bublil. Hartford went on to outshoot SB 10-2 in the half, but was unable to stretch its lead.

The Seawolves tied it up 16 minutes into the second half when a string of passes by Rob Fucci and Chris Megaloudis sent Steve Goltsman on a breakaway up the middle, and he converted to make it a 1-1 game.

Hartford responded just over five minutes later as Kenniel Martin found Harry Vasiliadis, who fired a shot into the right corner to push the Hawks' lead back to 2-1.

SB battled back once again in the 79th minute when Fucci set up Michael Palacio, who slid a shot past a diving Ryan Carr to tie the match at two goals apiece.

Both teams had scoring chances over the remainder of the contest, but neither team was able to net the game-winner.

Stony Brook goalkeeper John Moschella turned away a season-high 11 shots, while Carr made seven saves for the Hawks.

The Seawolves are back in action on Wednesday when they host Adelphi at 7:00 p.m.
