Stony Brook Handles Hartford, 67-54

Antwan Hardy scored a team-high 15 points and was one of four Seawolves in double figures as Stony Brook earned a 67-54 win over Hartford in America East action on Saturday afternoon. The win improved Stony Brook to 7-8 overall, 2-4 in conference play. Hartford dipped to 5-10, 1-5.

Leading 31-25 at the break, the Seawolves took control of the game during the first four minutes of the second half. SB surged out of the locker room with a 12-5 run that was capped by a Mike Popoko three-pointer which gave the hosts a 43-30 lead with 16:20 to play.

A pair of Demarcquez Rembert free throws pulled Hartford within 52-44 with 7:14 remaining, but that would be as close as the Hawks would get the rest of the way. A dunk by Jairus McCollum pushed the lead back to 10, a lead that would build to 60-46 when Bobby Santiago drilled an 18-footer at the 3:50 mark.

Hardy added three steals, two rebounds and two assists to his team-leading 15 points. Popoko added 12 points and eight boards while McCollum totaled 10 points and eight caroms. It was McCollum's third straight game in double figures. Santiago finished with 11 points and five assists.

Stony Brook's defense held the Hawks to 31.7 percent shooting for the game.

The Seawolves are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Binghamton. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
