Maine Gets By Women's Basketball 88-60

Orono, Maine - Missy Traversi led Maine with 21 points to lead four Black Bears in double figures in a 88-60 win over Stony Brook on Sunday afternoon at Alfond Arena. With the loss, the Seawolves fell to 4-13 overall and 2-6 in America East play, while the Black Bears improved to 10-8 and 6-2.

Maine jumped out to an early lead, scoring the first ten points in the game before the Seawolves got on the board with a pair of free throws five minutes into the half. The Black Bears continued to build on the lead, increasing it to 22-6 on a three pointer by Ashley Underwood at the 10:58 mark.

Stony Brook's Mykeema Ford had 14 points in the first half, including two three pointers to keep the Seawolves close, but the Black Bears were able to take a 44-27 lead into the half.

In the second half, Maine continued to control play, as the Black Bears stretched a fourteen point lead at the 17:40 mark to a 21 point lead capped by a three pointer by Traversi at 15:03. With under eight minutes to play, two free throws followed by a three pointer by Ashley Underwood extended the Black Bears lead to 26 points, and they never looked back.

Ford led the Seawolves with 21 points, while Jessica Smith had 14 points and 11 rebounds.

The Seawolves are back in action when they host Albany on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
