Volleyball Swept By Albany

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook volleyball team was swept 3-0 (30-23, 30-21, 30-20) by America East leading Albany. The loss drops the Seawolves to 9-15 overall and 3-5 in the America East. Albany improves to 22-3 and 8-1 in conference. The loss puts Stony Brook in a three-way tie with New Hampshire and UMBC for the fourth and final America East tournament spot.

After falling behind 3-8 early on, Stony Brook battled back, cutting the lead to one at 17-18. The Great Danes rallied and closed out the opening game 30-23.

Game 2 opened with both teams exchanging points early on, with Albany only claiming as much as a two-point lead. With the game knotted 13-13, an Albany error gave Stony Brook its first lead of the game, 14-13. The Great Danes reclaimed the lead at 20-19, before closing the game with a 10-2 run, claiming game 2 30-21.

Albany gained control early in the final game, rushing out to an 11-2 lead. Stony Brook closed the lead to five at 19-24, before the Great Danes closed out the match with a 6-1 run, winning game 3, 30-20.

Morgan Sweany led the Seawolves with 11 kills and added five digs. Claire Lindner dug a team-high 13 and Kate Ruskowski contributed 30 assists in the loss. Shelby Goldman led all attackers with 15 kills for the Great Danes and Eileen Rodriguez added five aces in the win.

The Seawolves return to action when they travel to Binghamton on Friday, November 4 for a 7:00 PM contest. They will then return home for their final home match of the season on Sunday, November 6 when they take on UMBC at 1:00 PM.
