Swimming and Diving Falls to UMass

The Stony Brook University men's swimming and diving team fell to the University of Massachusetts this afternoon in Amherst, 165-135. It was the first dual meet of the season for the Seawolves, who fall to 0-1. Freshman Jon Sigurosson and senior Nathan French led the Seawolves on the afternoon.

The 200 yard medley relay team comprised of senior Nathan French, freshman Jon Sigurosson, senior Jeffrey Chu, and junior Christopher Pai nabbed a first place finish on the day with a time of 1:36.26.

Sophomore Bryce Cullinane finished third in the 1000 freestyle (10:18.66) and 500 free (4:59.62). Senior Kyle Thornton placed third in the 200 freestyle with a time 1:49.52. French touched first in the 100 backstroke (53.73), just in front of freshman teammate Rafael Labour who touched at 53.80. Sigurosson nabbed a first place finish in the 100 breaststroke (58.73) and landed another win in the 200 breast (2:12.10).

Chu won the 200 butterfly (1:56.54) and placed second in the 200 IM (2:02.31). Pai tied for first in the 50 free with a time of 22.12. Seth Dusharm placed third in the one meter diving with a score of 222.75 and in the three meter with a score of 205.05. Pai touched second in the 100 free (49.09). The Seawolves had the top three finishes in the 200 backstroke with French (1:58.10), Labour (1:58.64), and Ruslan Safarov (2:01.27).

Stony Brook returns to action on November 9th, when the Seawolves travel to take on Fordham.
